Blog by London Artist & Fashion Illustrator Elyse Blackshaw
Wow, what a whirlwind September has been! From creative collaborations to exciting events, it’s been a month packed with art, fashion, and vibrant energy. I’m feeling beyond grateful for all the opportunities that have come my way. Here’s a little photo drop and a recap of some of the best moments from this unforgettable month.
Open Studio Event – A Creative Kickoff!
September started with my Open Studio event. It was a joy to welcome so many of you into my creative space. Sharing my process as a London artist and giving a behind-the-scenes look into my work was such a rewarding experience. The conversations, connections, and inspiration that filled the room reminded me why I love what I do.
Illustrating Phoebe English for London Fashion Week
I had the incredible opportunity to illustrate for Phoebe English during London Fashion Week. Capturing the silhouettes and sustainable designs of her collection was a true honour. Phoebe’s commitment to craftsmanship and environmental consciousness made this project especially meaningful. Translating her vision into fashion illustrations allowed me to showcase the textures, movement, and essence of her pieces in a unique, artistic way—highlighting the beauty of sustainable fashion on such a prestigious platform.
Painting a Window Display at Cass Art
One of the standout projects this month was planning and painting a window display at Cass Art. As a window artist, it’s always exciting to bring a concept to life on such a large, public canvas. This project allowed me to blend creativity with the physicality of working on location – always a challenge, but so worth it when the final piece comes together.
Hosting a Fashion Illustration Workshop
Fashion and art have always been closely intertwined, and this month I had the pleasure of hosting a dynamic Fashion Illustration Workshop at Cass Art celebrating London Fashion Week. Bringing together creativity, movement, and design, the workshop was an exciting opportunity to teach participants how to express themselves through fashion illustration. Whether sketching runway looks or creating conceptual designs, it was a fun-filled event that brought a lot of energy to the Cass Art studio!
Live Event Artist with Strathberry and Shrimps
September also brought the honour of drawing live for two luxury British brands – Strathberry and Shrimps. As a fashion illustrator, working with such incredible names in the industry is always a dream come true. The event allowed me to capture their VIP guests and gift them with unique, personalised fashion illustrations. I couldn’t be more thrilled with how the illustrations turned out!
Another Inspiring Fashion Workshop at Great Art
Hosting a second fashion workshop at Great Art was another highlight of the month. The turnout was amazing, and it’s always inspiring to see how each person approaches their work in such a unique way. Sharing my techniques and insights while watching participants develop their skills always leaves me feeling motivated for what’s next.
Featured in the LCF Unseen Exhibition
To wrap up the month, I’m excited to announce that my work is being featured in the London College of Fashion Unseen Exhibition, starting on the 1st October 2024. This exhibition showcases the work of talented artists across various mediums, and I’m honored to be a part of it! If you're in London, I highly recommend checking it out – the exhibition offers an amazing glimpse into the creative minds shaping today’s fashion and art scene.
Feeling Grateful for an Amazing Month!
Reflecting on this past month, I’m filled with gratitude for all the collaborations, events, and artistic opportunities that have come my way. From working as a live event illustrator to showcasing my skills as a fashion illustrator and window artist, September has been an incredible journey of creativity and growth.
As I look forward to the next adventure, I want to thank everyone who has been a part of this amazing month. Whether you attended a workshop, stopped by the studio, or caught one of my window displays, your support means the world!
